Stephen Smulowitz Presents at Academy of Management’s Annual Meeting in Philadelphia

Allegacy Financial Center for Leadership and Character’s Research Associate Stephen Smulowitz recently presented his natural language processing research at the Academy of Management’s annual meeting. 

During the Professional Development Workshop, Smulowitz shared his research on using natural language processing to measure CEO meanness and how that trait impacts mergers and acquisitions. The talk, “Content and Textual Analysis in Organizational Research: Techniques and Applications,” was a discussion on the difficulties of assessing a leader’s personality through their words and how to link those linguistic insights to real organizational results.

In addition to his role as a researcher with the AFCLC, Smulowitz as an Associate Professor at the Wake Forest School of Business and the McNicholas-Lightcap Faculty Fellow, where he teaches strategic management with a focus on ethical decision-making and character development.
