Drawing from his extensive expertise, Musil will examine the state of North Carolina’s environment, its unique ecological challenges, and opportunities for a sustainable future, all while highlighting Carson’s enduring influence. He will also reflect on the role of women in shaping environmental policies and movements, based on his book Rachel Carson and Her Sisters: Extraordinary Women Who Have Shaped America’s Environment. This talk promises to inspire and empower attendees to consider the ways in which Carson’s legacy can inform the ongoing environmental work in North Carolina and beyond.

Maya Angelou Garden Party 2025

The Maya Angelou Garden Party is an annual event hosted in Bailey Park to honor Dr. Maya Angelou by celebrating community, storytelling, and art. Hosted by the Wake Downtown Student Ambassadors in partnership with Wake Downtown and ZSR Library each year, this event is free and open to the Wake Forest and broader Winston-Salem community. It includes poetry reading and spoken word performances on display to honor Dr. Angelous literary legacy. Food, music, and lawn games are also part of the celebration.
