John Sumanth appointed Associate Dean for MBA Programs

The Wake Forest School of Business is pleased to announce the appointment of John Sumanth as the new Associate Dean for MBA Programs, effective immediately.

The leadership change comes as professors Tim Janke and Mark Johnson have concluded their leadership appointments with the School of Business MBA Program and will return to the classroom full-time to focus on teaching and research advancement and further enhancing the School’s academic environment.

Sumanth, whose research focuses on employee communication, leadership/ trust, and status, joined the School in 2013. Prior to academia, Sumanth had a successful corporate career at Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and Burger King Corporation (BKC) where he held high-profile roles in strategic planning, marketing, and R&D. He began his academic career at Southern Methodist University, where he spent two years before joining Wake Forest. He has received numerous teaching awards in both the Undergraduate and MBA programs. His research has been published in a number of premier management journals, including, Administrative Science Quarterly, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Business Ethics, and Harvard Business Review.

Sumanth is very active in his service to the School, having served previously as a member of the Graduate Business Certification Committee, and currently serving as a research associate for the Allegacy Center for Leadership & Character, chair of the Graduate Honor Council and a member of the Executive Committee as chair of the Faculty Senate Committee on Athletics.

Sumanth holds a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, an MBA in marketing and management from the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering (cum laude) from the University of Miami.
