Cuba Global Immersion Course
The 2019 Cuba Global Immersion is an opportunity for MBA students to explore Cuba’s business and economic context, which exists within a political and cultural system quite different from the US. Cuba is a country of paradoxes waiting to be discovered and explored, and which can best be experienced from within.
During this course, students will have the opportunity to explore Cuba’s history, culture, and business sectors to gain insight into a country in transition. Our itinerary will focus on a combination of business and cultural experiences, including intimate discussions with business owners, entrepreneurs, and academics, as well as exposure to significant industries in Cuba. For example, will look at tourism as a mechanism for economic growth, the medical sector and its successes within Cuba and worldwide, and the informal economy as well. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how society, culture, politics and economics contribute to the practice of business.
This 3-credit course will start with 2 classroom-based seminars at Wake Forest University with assignments to provide basic knowledge of Cuba’s history, economy, business context, culture and politics. We will then spend nine days on the ground in Cuba, meeting with a variety of influential leaders in different sectors.
