Nonprofit Leaders to Begin Courses at the Wake Forest Charlotte Center

More than 100 leaders from over 35 nonprofit organizations will converge at the Wake Forest University Charlotte Center on Thursday, Sept. 13, for the first in a series of nine courses that were specially designed for nonprofit leaders.

“Essentials of Business for Nonprofit Organizations” covers a range of topics essential to the governance and management of nonprofits. Classes are taught primarily by Wake Forest law school and business school faculty and are open to the nonprofit community in the Charlotte region.

“The Wake Forest University motto is Pro Humanitate, which means ‘for humanity.’ The core of our mission is to teach passionate leaders who are dedicated to sharing their knowledge and talents to serve humanity,” said Steve Virgil, Director of the Wake Forest University Institute for Public Engagement.

There are over 8,000 nonprofit organizations in Mecklenburg County. “The demand for these classes shows the desire from the nonprofit community for continuing education. I am thrilled Wake Forest can play a role in serving the Charlotte nonprofit community,” said Joanne O’Brien Beam Chair of the Wake Forest Nonprofit Advisory Committee and Managing Partner of Capstone Advancement Partners.

Courses cover the following areas: Governance, Strategic Planning, Budgeted and Finance, Human Resources, Fund Development, Collaboration, Evaluation, Advocacy and Communication and Capstone Leadership Lessons for Nonprofits.

The students have two years to complete all nine sessions. After finishing all sessions, participants will receive a certificate of completion from Wake Forest University.

Scholarships have been made available courtesy of our corporate partners Duke Energy and Foundation for the Carolinas. Classes are held at the Wake Forest University Charlotte Center on College and 5th streets in Uptown.
