Wachovia CEO to deliver lecture at Wake Forest MBA

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Chairman, President and CEO of Wachovia Corp. G. Kennedy (Ken) Thompson will deliver the Babcock Leadership Series lecture “Creativity: A Method to the Magic” at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 in Room 1312 of the Worrell Professional Center at the Winston-Salem campus of Wake Forest University. The event is free and open to the public.

Thompson, a Wake Forest MBA alumnus, has held his current position since 2000. He also held various other positions, including chairman, chief executive officer and president of First Union Corp. He earned a BA in American Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, prior to earning an MBA from Wake Forest’s Babcock Graduate School of Management.

Thompson is a member of several professional boards including Carolinas Healthcare System, Financial Services Roundtable, the Clearing House; Federal Reserve System Advisory Council; Financial Services Forum, the Business Council and International Monetary Conference.

He also serves on the boards of several community organizations, including Teach for America, North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Charlotte Latin School, YMCA Metropolitan, United Way of Central Carolinas, Charlotte Institute for Technology Innovation, International Advisory Board of the British American Business Council, Foundation of the Carolinas and Advantage Carolina.

The Babcock Leadership Series, which is organized by Wake Forest MBA students, focuses on current issues affecting business.
