Faculty Honored at Annual Awards Luncheon

The School of Business recognized and celebrated exemplary faculty members for their teaching, research and service at the 2023 Faculty Awards Luncheon. View the photo gallery.

In addition to honoring outstanding faculty members, three retiring faculty members were celebrated for their years of dedicated service. Together, they represented almost 60 years of service to Wake Forest University.

Research & Scholarship Awards

Cowan Faculty Research Award

Fahad Saleh, Nunnenkamp-Cinelli Faculty Fellow and Associate Professor, was awarded the Cowan Faculty Research Award, which recognizes a faculty member who represents the highest standards of scholarship as chosen by the Area Chairs following annual reviews.

High Impact Scholarship Award

Stacie Petter, Professor, received the the High Impact Scholarship Award, which recognizes a faculty member for significant influence on business practice or pedagogy. Recipients are nominated by the permanent faculty and chosen by the Area Chairs.

Teaching Awards

T.B. Rose Fellowship in Business

Rob Nash, Thomas K. Hearn, Jr. Professor in Finance, was chosen to receive the T.B. Rose Fellowship in Business, which recognizes a notable innovation or initiative related to instruction in the undergraduate or graduate programs. Recipients are Nominated by the permanent faculty and chosen by a committee of last year’s recipients and the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty.

Ali Zeytoon-Nejad, Assistant Teaching Professor, was chosen to receive the T.B. Rose Fellowship in Business, which recognizes a notable innovation or initiative related to instruction in the undergraduate or graduate programs. Recipients are Nominated by the permanent faculty and chosen by a committee of last year’s recipients and the Senior Associate Dean for Faculty.

Senior Class Teaching Award

Mark Johnson, Fellow in Investments & Portfolio Management and Teaching Professor, was presented the Senior Class Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating senior students and is based on a ballot of all graduating seniors across undergraduate degree programs.

MSA Class Teaching Award

Whitney Simpson, Associate Professor of the Practice and Program Director – Accounting, was awarded the MSA Class Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating MSA students and is based on a ballot of graduating MSA students.

MSM Class Teaching Award

Ali Zeytoon-Nejad, Assistant Teaching Professor, was presented the MSM Class Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating MSM students and is based on a ballot of graduating MSM students.

MSBA Class Teaching Award

Tonya Balan, Associate Teaching Professor, was awarded the MSBA Class Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating MSBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating MSBA students.

MSBA Online Teaching Award

Mike Ames, Professor of the Practice, received the MSBA Online Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating OMSBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating OMSBA students.

MBA Online Teaching Award

Winston-Salem Evening MBA Teaching Award

Sherry Moss, Associate Dean of MBA Programs, Benson Pruitt Professor in Business, and Professor of Organizational Studies, was awarded the Spring 2023 Winston-Salem Evening MBA Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating Winston-Salem Evening MBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating Winston-Salem Evening MBA students.

**John Sumanth, James Farr Fellow in Leadership & Organizational Development,  ACLC Associate, and Associate Professor of Management was awarded the Summer 2022 Winston-Salem Evening MBA Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating Winston-Salem Evening MBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating Winston-Salem Evening MBA students.

Charlotte Evening MBA Teaching Award

The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating CLT EVE MBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating Charlotte Evening MBA students.

Charlotte Saturday/Hybrid MBA Teaching Award

Amol Joshi, Bern Beatty Fellow and Associate Professor, was awarded the Fall 2022 Charlotte Saturday/Hybrid MBA Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduating Charlotte Saturday/Hybrid MBA students and is based on a ballot of graduating Charlotte Saturday/Hybrid MBA students.

**These teaching awards, which were for the six-semester students who graduated in Summer 2022/Fall 2022, were presented in a separate ceremony earlier in the year. Starting this year, they align with our other annual teaching awards.

Horace Kelly Alumni Teaching Award

Cynthia Tessien, Professor of the Practice, was awarded the Horace Kelly Alumni Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of undergraduate/MSA alumni who graduated 10 years ago and is based on nominations of undergraduate/MSA alumni from the 10th anniversary class.

 Kienzle Alumni Teaching Award

Kenny Herbst, Associate Dean of the Undergraduate Business Program, Associate Professor of Marketing, and Board of Visitors Fellow in Marketing, received the Kienzle Alumni Teaching Award. The award recognizes outstanding contribution to the education and personal development of graduate program alumni and is chosen by vote of MBA, MSM, MSBA, and OMSBA alumni three years after graduation.

Service Awards

Service MVP Award

Phil Anderson, Associate Teaching Professor, was awarded the Service MVP Award. the award recognizes outstanding service to the School, above and beyond administrative duties. Recipients are nominated by permanent faculty and chosen by the School Leadership Team.

Spirit Award

Bren Varner, Assistant Dean of the Master of Science in Management Program and Senior Lecturer, was awarded the Spirit Award. The award recognizes a faculty member who displays good citizenship and positive attitude and inspires other faculty to high achievement. Recipients are nominated and voted by permanent faculty.
