Business Professor Receives High Honor in Information Systems Discipline
Stacie Petter is a 2022 recipient of the AIS Fellow Award presented by the Association for Information Systems. Petter, Professor of Management Information Systems at the Wake Forest University School of Business, received the award for her significant global, national, and regional academic contributions to the information systems discipline.
The accolade acknowledges individuals who have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and service. It is one of the highest honors within the discipline. A total of 12 fellows were selected this year.
“Many of the past Fellows of the Association for Information Systems are among those I have cited and admired for their contributions to the information systems discipline since I was a Ph.D. student. To receive the same honor as some of these thought leaders within the information systems discipline is such an honor,” Petter said.
Petter has a keen interest in researching topics that are relevant and useful to both the academic and practitioner communities. Her research delves into the ways information systems and technology have the potential to generate value and benefits, but also harm, to individuals and organizations. She examines how information technology can be used in the fight against human trafficking and other illicit activity. Petter also performs research related to gamification and online games in organizations and how an individual’s personal identity with information technology can affect how they use technology in personal or business settings.
“As a scholar, I have always felt the need to continually contribute intellectually to my discipline, engage meaningfully to educate students, and serve my professional and university communities,” Petter said. “Engaging in research allows me to explore my personal intellectual curiosities, but as an academic, I recognize my responsibility to share the knowledge and insights gained from my research with various academic and professional communities to continue to advance knowledge.”
Petter previously served as the Ben H. Williams Professor of Information Systems and Business Analytics at the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University before joining the Wake Forest faculty in fall 2022.
“This recognition further validates the tremendous impact Dr. Stacie Petter has had within her research and teaching,” said Jeff Camm, Senior Associate Dean for Faculty. “We are proud to have Dr. Petter as part of our faculty and look forward to seeing the continued contributions she will make to the School of Business and the information systems discipline.”
Petter’s research has been prominently featured in MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, and various other information systems publications. Her research on human trafficking has also received funding from the National Science Foundation and the IBM Center for the Business of Government. Petter earned a Ph.D. in computer information systems from Georgia State University.
