Bern Beatty Fellow and Associate Professor of Strategic Management Amol Joshi has been officially invited by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) – Policy and Global Affairs Directorate to serve on a study committee. The committee will conduct a congressionally-mandated independent review of the Small Business R&D Programs at NASA. Each year, the federal government invests approximately $2.5 billion in technology development through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs.
NASA’s SBIR and STTR Programs represent an investment of approximately $130 million. The SBIR and STTR programs have a primary purpose of fostering research and development activities sourced from U.S. small businesses for infusion into NASA missions and potential commercialization. The committee will prepare an analysis and report on NASA’s programs, presenting findings and recommendations to members of Congress, Executive branch leaders, small business advocates, and entrepreneurs. This opportunity allows Joshi to translate his research on innovation and commercialization strategies into actionable insights and impactful policies for economic development.
