What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become an admissions ambassador because I hope to show prospective students how The Wake Forest School of Business has positively impacted my academic journey thus far. When I first moved to Winston-Salem, virtually everything felt unknown to me. I had never moved more than 30 minutes away from home prior to starting here and had never even taken a business class. As you can imagine, this was very intimidating. However, I was able to meet some amazing people at orientation (both faculty and my peers) who made me feel comfortable amidst all of the newness. I want to leave prospective students with the impression that they would also be able to make a home here and take advantage of all Wake has to offer.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM at Wake Forest because I was offered the unique opportunity to obtain two master’s degrees through the Emerging Leaders Program. My goal is to integrate my passion for lifestyle medicine with a business background to advocate for patients in underserved communities and for the PA profession. The skills and network Wake Forest provides graduate students are invaluable and I am confident that the MSM degree will not only elevate my professional presence but also enable me to further my personal goals.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
One of my favorite spots in Winston-Salem is Bailey Park! Since moving, I have frequented the coffee shops there and studied at the park (when weather permits). There are really nice tables outside, so it creates the perfect study/ hangout spot. Closer to campus, I love Reynolda Village. It’s a great place to grab coffee and get your steps in while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to be a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because I would not be here if it were not for Alex Peoples reaching out to me on Handshake. Before he messaged me, I had no idea that this program existed, or how much I needed to be here. All I knew was that I was in my senior year and not getting hired because I was not well rounded enough for the business world in terms of tangible skills. Like me, there are tons of students at small liberal arts colleges who are incredibly smart and have a great educational background, but don’t know where they are going next in life or how to get there. I’m here because of Alex’s message, but what if I didn’t see it? Or what if we did not have such similar experiences? I needed to know that as a Literature major, my education was worthwhile and that I could really survive and benefit from this program. I wanted to be a part of Admissions so that I can connect with the people like me who would thrive in MSM but don’t know that this option is out there.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
As I mentioned in my previous answer, I knew that in order for me to achieve my career goals and dreams, I needed to build on the skills that I had from undergrad. I got a fantastic education from Hamilton College, and I would not trade my time there for the world or change any choices I made there. However, after four years, I had little to no experience with data analysis, presenting data, or consultative problem solving. I knew that in anything I did, these skills and this additional education would be vital. Thus, I chose to pursue MSM at Wake Forest. It also helps that I had my interviews with Alex and Janasi, who emphasized the program’s grounding in liberal arts, and celebration of our different backgrounds.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot as of right now on campus is the pool – it is my happy place! I love to swim, and I go there to move my body and release the stress I’ve accumulated during the day or week. I also have turned it into a social space, where I go swimming with friends and chat with the lifeguards to create a third space that is not home or school where I can be outgoing and conversational but without a focus on achievement. I think people need to find a place where they feel comfortable and productive, that has nothing to do with their academic or career success. For me, the pool is a place where I can find self worth that is entirely personally driven.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
As an Admissions Ambassador, I get to interact with a wide range of prospective students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This deepens my network and allows me to build meaningful relationships that could benefit me both personally and professionally. Having gone through the MSM program myself, this role offers a chance to give back to the community by supporting the next generation of students, helping them navigate a journey similar to mine.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
As someone with a diverse background in psychology, HR consulting, leadership, and project management I thought I would gain valuable benefit from the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program here at Wake Forest University for several reasons: While I already have experience in HR and leadership roles, I knew the MSM program would deepen my understanding of business acumen, and core business functions such as finance, marketing, and operations. This comprehensive knowledge would complement my psychology background, helping approach problems from both human and business perspectives.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot off campus is Krankies. Krankies has a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere, making it a perfect place to connect with friends or doing school work. Krankies has amazing biscuits and coffee, including locally roasted beans and their menu often features locally sourced ingredients.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I was conflicted while deciding on whether or not I wanted to go to grad school in general, and if I wanted to attend Wake. I want to help people who were in my same position and help them to make the best decision for them.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM program at Wake Forest because I did not have a business background in undergrad, but I aspire to go into corporate sustainability. I realized that I needed to improve my business skills to be able to reach my career goals, and MSM was perfect for people who didn’t have a business background but want to gain one.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot in Winston-Salem is Chad’s Chai because it is a great place to study with great drinks and food. I am vegan and they have many vegan desserts. In addition, they don’t charge extra for plant milk like many cafe’s do, which makes it one of my top spots to go.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I love being able to connect with potential new students and share my experience with the MSM program as well as serve as a friendly face for them. I had such a welcoming and positive experience with my new student onboarding and I would love to pay it forward and help give others a similar, fun, and positive experience. I love meeting new people and learning about them and making connections and this would be a great way to further connect with people interested in Wake Forest. I am also proud to be part of the MSM program and love talking about it with others.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM program at Wake Forest because I knew several people from Wake who had done it in the years before me and who really enjoyed their experience. I saw the opportunities that it provided them with and decided that it would be a great way for me to build upon my skills from undergrad and generate more opportunities for myself. I wanted to grow my knowledge and learn about an industry that I knew Wake Forest knew well–Business. As a Wake Undergrad, I also really love Wake’s campus and was excited by the thought of getting to stay for another year.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
One of my favorite spots in Winson-Salem is downtown at Chad’s Chai. In the past, I have been known to study in my room. I quickly realized that in order to be successful in the MSM program, I was going to need to study more than I did in undergrad, which meant being in my room even more. I decided that in order to make studying more enjoyable, and to prevent burnout from studying in my room, I should explore the study spots of Winston Salem and find a place that was enjoyable and relaxing. I started going to Chad’s Chai and found it to be a great study spot. It’s quiet, slow-paced, and there are several tables and laptop charging spots. They also have amazing chai lattes and pastries and I love to have a sweet treat to reward myself when I’m working. I find myself here for a few hours every weekend.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
Being a 4th generation Wake Forest student, working as an ambassador in admissions as an undergrad, and working for 2 years in Wake Forest’s undergraduate Admissions Office, a core value of mine is giving back to the university I have called home for the last 6 years. My experiences here have engrained the motto of Pro Humanitate in my life and I am always looking to give back to Wake Forest and share my wonderful experiences with other prospective students who look to potentially call this place home for themselves as well. Working consistently with prospective students during my time in the Admissions Office has equipped me with a clear understanding on how to converse with students looking to join the Wake Forest community and answer their questions both professionally and honestly.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM program because it ties back to my undergrad experience. I wanted a tight-knit community where I knew I would be supported by both my peers as well as the faculty in order to grow not only as a person, but as a student and a professional.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot on campus has to be the Reynolds Gym! On top of it being a state-of-the-art facility, I try to find time to be active and maintain a good work-life balance during my studies.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
As a member of the Wake Forest cheer team, I already felt very proud to represent Wake Forest at football games, basketball games, and public appearances. I felt that I would love to have more ways to represent the university, and continue spreading school spirit. I also am incredibly confident that I would not have been happier anywhere else for grad school, and want to encourage more people to make the same decision.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I wanted to find a program that would best set me up for post-graduation, and somewhere geared towards people coming from undergrad. I found this program to meet both of those descriptions, and have always felt a Wake Forest education is unrivaled.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I love the Sutton Center. I work out there daily, have never seen a college rec center come close to being as nice as this one.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a graduate admissions ambassador, because I don’t think students at my undergraduate institution know much about the Wake Forest School of Business and what graduate programs are offered. This may be true for other institutions with great students who would be interested in pursuing a masters degree at Wake. I learned about the program when Janasi came to Spelman for a graduate fair, she was very nice and informative. In the spring she came back with Shandra and she remembered me and basically tracked me down because she knew I hadn’t applied to the school of business like I said I would. That showed me that herself and Wake care and want students to apply and learn more about the school of business. I wanted to become a graduate admissions ambassador so I can help prospective feel that we care and genuinely want them to obtain a degree from Wake. Spelman does not offer business as a major or minor however they are business clubs so a lot of information about graduate business opportunities I feel I didn’t know about because there is not a business program at Spelman. I know other Spelman students may feel this same way and I want to help bridge this gap. I love helping others and from firsthand experience I know if it wasn’t for Janasi I probably would have never known what Wake has to offer me. I hope to be the same person for prospective students that Janasi and the whole staff was/is for me .
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM program at Wake, because I love business and Spelman did not offer a business degree. I want to gain business knowledge and grow my confidence as leader and I feel the MSM program will help me do that. I appreciate that the program is tailored to non business majors and that the faculty take the time to teach us and give us real world experience. Lastly, I chose this program because I want to obtain my MBA degree in the future and I am able to do that in half of the time by completing this program.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I haven’t been around Winston-Salem that much, but I did try DeBeen Espresso and I enjoyed myself. They have a really good caramel blender bender drink and the vibe of the coffee shop is very relaxing. The staff was very nice and welcoming. It is downtown so you can walk around and explore the city. It is also right across the street from Bailey Park and they frequently have events going on so maybe after a study session at DeBeen one could go hang out and enjoy themselves.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
In the short time I have been a student at Wake Forest University, I have grown to absolutely love it. Coming from a background that didn’t quite align with my goals and passions, I am excited about the sense of purpose and self-esteem I feel being a student in the School of Business. I’ve never been more driven and excited about the future! I love having the opportunity to share this with prospective students, especially those who might be in the same position I was in in undergrad. In addition to this, I am a recipient of the Inclusive Excellence Scholarship for which I am eternally grateful. I love having the opportunity to give back to the School of Business for everything that has been gifted to me.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I have a passion for project management, helping others, and I am highly driven and organized. The Wake Forest MSM program seemed like the perfect opportunity for me to sharpen those skills and immerse myself in a new world that is equally challenging and exciting.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot on campus is the quad, I like to visit it during the day to re-center and get a burst of energy from the sunlight and the campus environment. My favorite spot in Winston-Salem is Camino Bakery on Brookstown Avenue. They have amazing drinks, incredible Everything Swiss Croissants, and the perfect study vibes!

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I absolutely love the program so far and am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be here. I consider graduate school to be a catalyst in shaping one’s future and achieving their dreams. I believe that the outcome of this experience relies on it being intentional and well-aligned with one’s values and aspirations. For that reason, I am eager to be a resource for others and have the opportunity to share my experience and story and allow others to make an informed decision about how they approach achieving their dreams. At the same time, when I was evaluating my options and deciding if I would come to Wake or not, I got immensely valuable information from recent graduates, therefore in recognition of the support I received, I want to give back and provide the same level of support to others. I love the community at Wake, from professors and faculty to my classmates, everyone is warm and kind but also talented and driven, so I want to contribute to getting more such people to join our community. Lastly, my background is relatively unique in the MSM program, but I get to see every day how it has equipped me to succeed in it, so I believe my perspective can be helpful for students with similar backgrounds.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I am a purpose-driven individual and my purpose is to be a catalyst for positive change and a provider of opportunity back home (Greece) and around the world. I pursue the MSM because I value the knowledge and experience I can get out of it and I consider it to be instrumental in me becoming an effective and ethical leader and social entrepreneur. At the same time, Wake’s motto “Pro Humanitate”, and the business school’s mission “to shape the whole person” deeply resonate with me and are aligned with my goals, ethos, and aspirations. Lastly, the classes coupled with the Graduate Consulting Project offer a comprehensive overview of business management together with actual experience which makes it an amazing opportunity to grow as an individual, learner and leader in a short period of time.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I think my favorite spot on campus is the benches under the trees, outside Farrell Hall. It is outdoors so I can enjoy the good NC weather and disconnect from my laptop while remaining connected to my classmates, as they often walk by on their way to Farrell or while leaving from it. At the same time, I really enjoy taking a walk in Hearn Plaza, as it seems there is always something going on, and there are always a lot of students sitting with their friends, studying, walking, etc. It feels like the heart of the community and I greatly enjoy experiencing that. Outside campus, I love Campus Gas, because it is so easily accessible and it’s an awesome spot to socialize with my classmates after class or unwind with my friends after a long day while offering some very nice food options. I also love hanging rock as a weekend hike. It is close enough to be a viable option while offering a chance to be in nature and enjoy some amazing views.

I wanted to be able to give future students advice about the benefit of joining the Wake Forest business graduate programs and serve as someone who is approachable.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I was interested in the MSM program because I wanted to gain more networking and career resources than I had during my undergraduate experience as a history major.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I really like the Benson Center just because of all the memories I have had as an undergraduate student running into people I know, and more generally in terms of how great the environment is there.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because it was a large reason on why I went here. I met two students during my visit and went to lunch with both of them. They reassured me of how the program worked and how well Wake does to get you a job not only that but they impressed my mom. Not until the meeting did I know the Ambassadors write thank you letters and let me tell you my mom ate that up and for some reason that made me even more willing to come. It is that simple experience that I want to give to perspective students so they can get the same feeling I had.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue MSM because I wanted a degree that said I know business. When I first walked into the business building I was blown away it is the most impressive academic building I have ever been in. The recruiters on campus at my undergrad and Alex were so helpful It felt right to come here.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot on campus is Farrell Hall. I know that may seem corny but it really is I look foreword to being here everyday it makes me extremely thankful for the opportunity. Sitting in a study room or the living room seeing your peers move around keep the small school vibe that I am used to. Outside in Winston, Incendiary is one of my favorite spots so far it is a cool underground pizza and brewery which you can sit outside.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
Wake Forest has been a second home to me for over four years now. Coming from an undergraduate background in STEM and social Psychology, I saw and continue to see as a current MSM student, the benefits and empowerment of pursuing a degree in the School of Business. For many of my fellow STEM and Psychology majors who love their subject matter but don’t feel a strong pull towards academic research or medical school, I want to share the Business School degree possibilities with them; help illuminate alternative options that many want but don’t know how to find, or are trying to learn more about but don’t feel capable or know where to start. As an undergraduate, I worked at the IT Service desk on campus and helped many of my peers troubleshoot the most serious computer issues to the, “not so serious but want to know how” technology issues. I enjoyed this helping role greatly, and it didn’t stop there. I found myself to be a natural information gatherer and enjoyed helping others find what they needed, sharing my own Wake Forest experiences to prospective students who wanted to know more about the school, and passing along the ins and outs of many upcoming campus events and campus information that I knew others would enjoy. I wanted to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because I wanted to pay it forward to those who feel stuck with not knowing what’s next, feel business school may be out of reach for them, or who already know about the programs and want to ask questions and find clarity!
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
As a Psychology major at Wake Forest, I enjoyed learning about how people think and behave and the research that goes into uncovering these mysteries. However, I felt that I wanted to apply psychology in my everyday job and career, instead of taking a more academic route to pursue research or a PhD in psychology myself. My passion for lifelong learning, entrepreneurial energy, and my paralleled interests in technology and operations (how things work together) drew me to explore the Master of Science in Management Program. I wanted to grow my knowledge in the application of business functions so I could capitalize on my undergraduate degree and experience in Psychology in the field of business. This program is fantastic overall, and the two things that drew me in the most–at the top of a long list–was the Program’s appeal to non-business majors and the faculty and staff at Wake Forest. In the Program, I knew I wouldn’t feel behind my peers in prepared knowledge, and instead we would all learn together and learn from each other coming from a wide variety of life experiences and undergraduate disciplines. As an undergraduate Deac, the student teacher ratio paired with the passions faculty had for their subjects was incredible. I believed when applying, and have seen in practice now, that the Wake Forest Business School faculty are phenomenal in their own right as well. They and the School of Business staff care deeply about student learning and supporting student success, throughout the program. I wanted to pursue the MSM Program at Wake Forest because I was lucky enough to already know what it meant to live by Pro Humanitante, and I am honored to continue to do so this year in the MSM Program.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
One of my favorite spots on campus is the ZSR library, although Farrell Hall is quickly becoming a top competitor for my top favorite spots. As a Double Deac, I have spent a great deal of time in ZSR, whether it be to study, utilize the academic resources, or enjoy after hour ZSR hosted events, it’s one of my favorites for its beautiful tall windows in the atrium and original architecture of the original library building. Off-campus, Salem-lake has grown to be a favorite of mine with its beautiful scenic lake, places to sit and picnic, and walking trails that take you around the park. It’s a beautiful place to take in the changing of seasons–second of course to the turning Fall leaves on Wake Forest’s campus.

I had the opportunity to expand my horizons and get access to countless opportunities through the MSM program. In a very short amount of time, this experience has been undoubtedly transformative for me. I want other students to be able to have that same experience and make the transition easier for them.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I needed to get more practical experience and be workplace ready to support my liberal arts degree, which is why the MSM was an attractive option. I was also really keen on being a part of Wake’s culture and diverse student body.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot on campus is the firepit, because that’s where I’ve made most of my memories so far.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I had such a wonderful experience as a prospective student with Reeva Cordice and I love being able to be that person for someone else who is considering the program. I understand that transitioning from undergrad to grad school can be daunting, therefore I’m happy to serve as a resource for anyone who has questions about the program and Wake Forest. In just two months of the MSM program, I enjoyed learning more about the business world and building valuable relationships. With this opportunity, I’m thrilled to share my experiences and insights with others.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
Prior to the MSM program, I earned a Master’s in Biomedical Research at Wake. While I enjoyed designing experiments and solving research problems, I became more intrigued by translational medicine and the process of applying scientific discoveries into real-world healthcare solutions. By pursuing the MSM, I hope to bridge the gap between science and business to advance the biomedical field but to also make a difference in the lives of individuals.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
One of my favorite spots in Winston-Salem is Bobby Boy Bakeshop. They have such a great variety of pastries, including the best almond croissants, coffee cake, eclairs, and raisin bread. Also their coffee and hand crafted sodas are perfect for a refreshing pick me up during the day. As a Winston-Salem native, I often recommend this bakery to people who aren’t from Winston-Salem.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because I know that deciding to apply to grad school is daunting and deciding the right program for you can be equally as daunting. I believe hearing from current students can be extremely helpful and has the power to influence a students decision and comfortability with not only applying but attending an institution. Talking to former and current students was a huge part of my decision to come to Wake Forest. I am grateful to all the people who spent time with me to make my decision easier and increase my confidence in pursuing the MSM program. I want to give back to prospective students in the same way and not only let them know how great the program is, but ease their stress and worries around applying, attending, etc.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSM at Wake Forest because I realized after being in the workforce that I wanted to transition into a business development / strategy role but I lacked the educational background and professional experience to effectively make that transition. I wanted to go back to school and go to a program that would not only give me the educational component, but allow me to develop real world, applicable experiences. I also wanted a program that was accelerated. I knew if I was going back to school full-time, in person I didn’t want a program that was over a year. Finally, I wanted to attend a school and program that had a strong reputation and alumni network.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot in Winston-Salem is Reynolda Village! I love walking around the shopping area and trails. I’m also a huge coffee drinker and always love sitting out at Dough Joe’s and enjoying coffee and donuts, especially in the fall when it’s nice out. I also love downtown and the innovation quarter – so many great restaurants, coffee shops, etc.!!

Entrepalooza – Demo Day

The students, faculty, and staff of the Wake Forest University Center for Entrepreneurship invite you to Entrepalooza: A Celebration of Entrepreneurship on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Entrepalooza is the annual marquee event for the Center for Entrepreneurship, and we welcome the opportunity to have you join us. Startup Lab Demo Day at 4:30 pm in Brendle Auditorium, Scales Fine Arts Center during which student-entrepreneurs will make investor-ready pitches. This will be followed by a Keynote Address by Veronica Miele Beard (P 26), an entrepreneur and brand-builder at the intersection of style, culture, and technology.

Hylton Lecture: Kim McCaslin (’93)

The Hylton Lecture Series in Accountancy was established in 1980 to honor Delmar P. Hylton, who started Wake Forests accountancy program in 1949 and helped build it into one of the top accounting programs in the nation. This year’s Hylton lecture will be presented by Kimberly McCaslin (’93), Partner and Head of the North America Portfolio Group at Bain Capital. Kim McCaslin joined Bain Capital in 2006. She is a Partner and Head of the North American Private Equity Portfolio Group. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Kim was a Vice President of M&A and Corporate Development for Capital One Financial. Before that, she was a Principal at Mercer Management Consulting, where she advised companies across a variety of industries. Kim started her career at Accenture, focusing primarily on business process redesign and financial systems development.

Fields of Fortune: North Carolina’s Legacy in Leaf and Labor

Tobacco has played a significant role in shaping North Carolinas cultural, economic, and social identity, even before the states official establishment. Early depictions of Native American communities along the coast at the end of the 16th century show cultivation and use of the plant. During the 19th century, tobacco became a cornerstone of the plantation economy, generating immense wealth for select families. In the 20th century, the rise of mass production and commercialization, along with an expanding labor force dedicated to its cultivation and processing, further embedded tobacco in North Carolinas way of life. Marketing campaigns and iconic imagery tied to tobacco are deeply woven into the states historical narrative. This exhibit showcases images, artifacts, and records from Special Collections & Archives, spanning from the sixteenth century to the modern era. It also features contributions from North Carolina artists and photographers, including Daisha Bunn and Erin Kye and their families, as well as works by photographer Dan Routh.
