Student teams are embedded with an athletic team or sports organization and support real-time, evolving analytical needs throughout the season, engaging directly with coaches, players, performance staff, or front-office personnel to address operational and strategic questions using relevant data streams.

Student teams continue to refine their work with live datasets while embedded with an athletic team or sports organization. SPORTS ANALYTICS CONCENTRATION SUMMARY

Combine the #3 Business Analytics program in the U.S. with advanced sports analytics and applied AI to set yourself up for a career with a major sports organization. Gain invaluable, hands-on experience as you spend two semesters as a sports analytics consultant embedded with a Division I, Power Four football, men’s or women’s basketball, tennis, or volleyball team.

All students admitted to the MSBA program may pursue the Sports Analytics concentration. No separate application is required.

In addition to the coursework required to earn the MSBA degree, Sports Analytics Concentration students will be embedded with a Division I, Power Four football, men’s or women’s basketball, tennis, or volleyball team as sports analytics consultants in a two-semester practicum experience.

Following conferral of the MSBA degree in the spring, students will be enrolled in two additional, asynchronous online courses taking place during the summer session, with concentration conferral in August:

Advanced Sports Analytics & AI (3 credits)
Sports Data Engineering & Applied Analytics (3 credits)

In addition to unprecedented involvement with sports teams, students will benefit from data cross-collaborations with the Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the Department of Health and Exercise Science.

The Sports Analytics Concentration is led by Steve Weinman, Senior Associate Athletics Director for Analytics and General Manager – Basketball.

Steve served thirteen years with the Chicago Bulls, most recently as Vice President of Basketball Strategy and Analytics and Assistant General Manager. He led the basketball analytics department, delivering data-driven insights to support scouting, drafting, trade analysis and game preparation.
