Bias Incident Reporting

Overview: A bias incident is an act or behavior motivated by the offender’s bias against facets of another’s identity. Bias can occur whether the act is intentional or unintentional. It may be directed toward an individual or group and can contribute to creating an unsafe, unwelcoming environment.

When Should I Report? You should report a bias incident when you experience or witness something that you think the University should know about. Even if you’re not sure if what you witnessed or experienced was bias-related, the University still wants to hear from you. What Happens Next?

  • Assessment by University Police: The situation will be assessed for danger of imminent harm.
  • Review by Dean of Students and Office of Diversity & Inclusion: A team led by these offices will review the report, reach out to provide care, offer support, and learn more about the incident. If needed, the report will be directed to the appropriate office for investigation.
