Web cast at Wake Forest decides winners in national entrepreneurship case-writing competition
MBA students from Wake Forest University and the University of Chicago were judged winners in the sixth annual Angell Center for Entrepreneurship National Case-Writing Competition, hosted at Wake Forest’s Babcock Graduate School of Management via Web cast on Friday, Feb. 3.
Four finalists who had advanced from a field of 33 semifinalists competed to determine the best written teaching cases based on work experiences in summer internship programs. Winners were selected in the categories of Traditional and Social entrepreneurship.
Joyce Glaid of the University of Chicago won the Traditional category with her case titled “Second Helping LLC: A Joint Venture.” Brody Eldridge of Wake Forest won the Social category with his case “The Delivering Difficult News Video.”
Runners-up were Wake Forest’s Scott Bevis in the Traditional category with his case “Blue Ridge Distillers Inc.,” and Chicago’s Gabriel Senior in the Social category with the case “Fundefir’s Self Sustainability.”
The cases help students bridge the gap between entrepreneurial theory and entrepreneurship as it is practiced. Cases and video presentations from this year’s competition will be posted online at www.mba.wfu.edu/ace/competitions for business school educators to use in teaching their students entrepreneurial concepts.
The competition is a past winner of the Irwin-McGraw-Hill Innovation in Entrepreneurship Pedagogy Award, presented by the Academy of Management. It is one of the offerings of the Babcock School’s Angell Center for Entrepreneurship, whose director, Stan Mandel, was named the No. 3 entrepreneurial program director in the country by peers from entrepreneurship programs in a survey in Entrepreneur magazine last year. The center was ranked No. 10 nationally by program directors, faculty and alumni by Entrepreneur, and the school ranked No. 24 nationally for entrepreneurship in a subcategory within last year’s U.S.News & World Report ranking.
