The 2010 Wake Forest Elevator Competition, one of the top business plan competitions in the nation, will launch a new website, www.ElevatorCompetitionLive.com, on Friday, March 26, 2010 to showcase this year’s event.

Student bloggers and videographers will post updates throughout the competition including interviews with participating teams, faculty from participating schools, competition judges, sponsors, speakers and numerous others.

Visitors to the event web site will be able to catch the action as 34 teams from top colleges and universities from across the United States and Canada perform their two-minute elevator pitch — in an actual elevator.

This year’s Wake Forest Elevator Competition, which takes place on March 26 and 27, features schools from as far as Ontario, Canada and Utah, as well as top regional Universities including Duke, UVA Darden, UNC Chapel Hill, and school host Wake Forest. More than 100 teams applied for the coveted 34 spots and include business ideas such as glucose-sensing contact lens for patients suffering from diabetes who need to self-monitor their blood glucose levels, converting waste bone into batteries and other modern electronics, and an online mobile tool that can help children with Autism improve their organization and socialization skills. In all, a variety of industries are covered in both traditional business ideas as well as a “social responsibility” category that was started in 2008. The 11th annual Wake Forest Elevator Competition should be fierce as teams not only vie for cash awards ($10,000 for first place in the traditional category and $5,000 for the social responsibility category), but also an opportunity receive up to $250,000 from the Piedmont Angel Network to start their venture.

Students, participating schools and partner companies will all be incorporated into the Elevator Competition’s Twitter feed.

Supporters will also have the opportunity to vote for their “Fan Favorite” and follow the teams’ progress throughout the event.

Teams include: AdStream (Duke University Fuqua School of Business), Aeramatics (Johns Hopkins University), Altus Poles (Brigham Young University), Autism Sphere (University of North Carolina), AYaH – Are You a Human? (University of Michigan Ross School of Business), bazari (Brigham Young University), CarBone (Duke University), CertiRx (University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler School of Business), ChangeEducate (Duke University), Cortical Concepts (Johns Hopkins University), Eco Green Glass (Kennesaw State University), EntoGenetics (Duke University Fuqua School of Business), Flashboard/Ashtech Ind (University of Virginia Darden School of Business), Glass Telepresence (University of Waterloo), GlucaGO LLC (Purdue University and Indiana University), Government Initiative Project (Wake Forest University Schools of Business), Healthie (Wake Forest University Schools of Business), Hydrangle Systems (Johns Hopkins University), Lama Lab (Carnegie Mellon University), Legacy Event Planners (North Carolina State University) , Marere Pure Water (Brigham Young University), MEDIVIEW DX (Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business), mobiLIFE (Boston University), NanoFex (Tulane University), NavoLipid (University of North Carolina), PCCA Technologies, Inc (Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business), PPP Progress & Purity Project (Duke University Fuqua School of Business), Runner’s Base (Wake Forest University Schools of Business), SafeSnip (Tulane University), ScoutForce (University of Michigan Ross School of Business), SECA (Emory University), Stealth Rowing (Georgetown University McDonough School of Business), TEU – Tseai Energy Unlimited (University of Maryland), and Whinot LLC (University of Virginia and University of North Carolina – Charlotte).
