What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because I understand the impact that current students and alumni have on prospective students. Learning about the program from individuals with firsthand experience was monumental in my decision. I was fortunate enough to have a Wake Forest MSA alum as my professor, and he recommended the accounting program.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I had to decide between Wake Forest’s Master of Science in Accountancy (MSA) program and Columbia’s Enterprise Risk Management program. I chose to attend Wake Forest for three reasons: the renowned Financial Markets & Transactions (FMT) track, the esteemed faculty with practical and entrepreneurial experience, and the strong alumni network.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
Farrell Hall is my favorite campus spot because of the natural lighting, comfortability in study spaces, resources, and outdoor area.

In undergrad I was apart of The Burroughs foundation and I have the opportunity to speak with prospective students and their parents about my undergrad. I was able to host events and did college fairs for Benedict College. I do believe that serving as an Ambassador here at Wake Forest University will propel me to sharpen my communication and organizational skills.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I was a Community Assistant for Residence Life at my undergraduate institution as well as a facilitator for incoming first year students and this directly translates to the MSA ambassadors. I can be a welcoming face, a liaison to administration, especially the EMT, and someone that people can go to for questions and to learn more. I have been doing this for three years, so this comes naturally and I wanted to be a part of giving back and getting the next group of students in!
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I wanted to feel ready for the corporate market and contribute immediately and effectively in my job. Wake Forest has a great reputation with CPA pass rates and market readiness, so I eagerly applied to WFU.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
The community. The amount of people rooting for you to get through the program makes the work feel more doable and the obstacles seem less difficult to get around. I would not make it without my cohort and the faculty/staff that are here to support.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to be an ambassador so I could develop myself as a representative, as this is a great program and I want to help continue the legacy and add to the culture. Doing this will allow continued reach and will in turn ensure the future of accounting continues being bright!
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSA program, because of the Tax Consulting track, along with the great support I received during the admissions process. For the tax specialty, I have interned in tax multiple summers and this solidified the area I want to begin my career in. Becoming the best tax accountant I can be is something the MSA program will help me to achieve. When I add in the support team, who sees me as an individual, and not just a robot completing assignments is a match made perfect.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
The most impactful part of my experience so far has been interactions with others. This ranges from other classmates, to faculty and staff. They have all been wonderful and have enhanced my experience and brought smiles to my face countless times. All the categories mentioned have also challenged me in varying ways which further pushes me to become the person I envision.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I was interested in becoming a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because my experience in the MSA program at Wake Forest has been incredibly positive, and I’m excited to share that with prospective students. One of the highlights of being in this program is the supportive community—both academically and personally. The people here, from faculty to fellow students, genuinely care about your success and are there to guide you along the way. When I was first exploring the school and even now, I’ve felt a strong sense of support and encouragement. I want to contribute to this welcoming environment and help others experience the same level of support that has been so valuable to me
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSA at Wake Forest because it felt like the perfect place to jump-start my career in accounting, especially since I’m new to the field. After researching various programs and attending Inclusion Weekend, I realized Wake Forest was exactly what I needed to grow professionally. Originally, I was headed toward a career in psychology or law, but I wanted something more practical and stable before potentially going back to law school. Wake Forest was one of the few programs that embraced my unique background and offered a fantastic network, a great CPA pass rate, and, most importantly, an internship built right into the program. This hands-on experience was something I really wanted since I hadn’t had the chance to work in accounting before. Plus, the program’s in-person format, the scholarship I received, and the opportunity to explore a new state made Wake Forest an even more attractive choice. Overall, it felt like a place where I could truly thrive and find the support I needed to succeed.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
The most impactful part of my experience in the MSA program has definitely been the people I’ve met—whether it’s the supportive faculty, the helpful staff, or the friends I’ve made along the way. At Wake Forest, I feel like I’m surrounded by a community that genuinely wants to see me succeed and is dedicated to helping me get there. Back in undergrad, where I wasn’t a business major, I didn’t always feel that kind of support or confidence in my potential in accounting. But since joining the MSA program, I’ve been welcomed with open arms and given so much encouragement and guidance. It’s been incredible to feel truly seen and supported by both the staff and faculty, which has really boosted my confidence. I’ve also been lucky to connect with amazing people in my cohort and throughout the business school. The friendships I’ve formed—whether through studying, sharing challenges, or just bonding over our experiences—have been invaluable. It’s a sense of community and connection that I hadn’t experienced before, and it’s what makes my time here so special.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
In undergrad I had a similar role where I would attend admissions events and speak to prospective students. Before coming to Wake Forest University, an MSA ambassador reached out to me to connect and it was such a nice gesture. I would love to do the same and be able talk to incoming students who are interested in the MSA program.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose Wake Forest University because of the support and relationships between faculty and students as well as the small campus size. I also felt that Wake Forest’s rigorous program would adequately prepare me for the workforce as well as the CPA exam. It was also a huge blessing that Wake Forest gave me a full tuition scholarship so that my education wouldn’t be a financial burden to me or my family.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I would say bonding with the friends that I’ve met here in the MSA program has been the most impactful so far. We’ve become close very quickly through studying, attending campus events, and serving in student organizations together

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
My positive experience as a prospective student at WFU last May solidified my desire to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador. Xin Weng’s enthusiasm and knowledge as an ambassador left a lasting impression. I’m passionate about representing the student minority community and sharing my experiences to help prospective students understand what makes WFU a unique and welcoming environment. WFU felt like an utopia for me, offering a safe campus, small class sizes, and strong connections with faculty. I’ve taken full advantage of the university’s resources, including the CLASS office, Wellbeing Coach, Counseling Center, and student organizations like the badminton club and the international student association. The friendly and supportive community at WFU has been invaluable. I believe my dedication, commitment, and firsthand knowledge of WFU would make me a valuable asset to the admissions team.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSA at Wake Forest University because of its strong reputation for academic excellence, particularly in the areas of accounting,I was drawn to the program’s small class sizes, which I believe foster a more personalized learning experience. Additionally, there are three track to define which one you will like the most and study for it. Wake Forest’s high CPA pass rate and strong internship placement record align with my career goals. I’m also excited about the opportunity to join a vibrant and supportive student community, as evidenced by the school’s reputation for a welcoming and inclusive environment.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
The most impactful part of my program experience has been the exceptional support and resources provided by Wake Forest. My professors have been incredibly dedicated and approachable, always willing to offer guidance and answer questions during office hours. The career services team, particularly Amuniki, has been instrumental in helping me refine my resume and prepare for interviews. I’ve also found immense value in the various support services offered by the university, including the CLASS Office, Wellbeing Coach, and Counseling Center. These resources have been invaluable in helping me build a balanced schedule, identify areas for growth, and address personal challenges. The level of care and support I’ve received at Wake Forest is truly exceptional and has made a significant positive impact on my academic and personal development. For the homecoming, this is really impactful, I never seen so many alumni on campus.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a graduate admissions ambassador because I felt incredibly welcomed during my application process at Wake Forest. The admissions team was exceptional, addressing all of the questions I had. I also had the chance to speak with an MSA student during my application process, who attended North Carolina State University. Her support made me feel prepared and at home. I want to pass on that same positivity to future prospective students, allowing them to have a similar welcoming experience as me. I would be honored to represent Wake Forest University through this role.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose to pursue the MSA program at Wake Forest for several reasons. Although I applied to four different Master’s in Accounting programs, Wake Forest’s tax curriculum stood out to me the most. My tax internship made me passionate to deepen my knowledge in this field, and I was particularly drawn to the program’s diverse tax classes, which cover various sectors of taxation. This program aligned perfectly with my goals as a future tax professional. Additionally, my in-person interview and campus tour at Wake Forest confirmed my decision. I was nervous when I left my home, but I immediately felt at ease when I reached inside Farrell Hall. Victoria, my interviewer, asked me about accounting and personal topics, which I found meaningful. It felt like the faculty cared about me so much, making me feel welcomed and valued.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
Personally, the professors have made my experience amazing. I love how they all want to help me understand the class material better. Even when I ask questions that aren’t specifically part of the upcoming test, they are more than willing to answer my question. Coming from an undergraduate school with large class sizes, this is definitely a unique experience for me and I love it!

I always loved sharing organizations and schools that I believed in its purpose and mission. I love it when I came to wake Forest and the hospitality the admission ambassador shared with me and I just want to do the same with other potential incoming students. I had so much fun sharing my undergrad campus and want to do the same at WFU!
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose the MSA program because I want to continue my education in a top-notch program with professors who have real life experiences to prepare me in the professional career! Also Wake Forest has one of the highest CPA pass rate. I want to get study at a place that means business and care about networking.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
My favorite spot other than Farrell Hall is the Hearn Plaza! I love seeing so many different students cross path at a central location on campus, kind of like the Living Room in Farrell Hall. It’s like the heart beat of campus where many things happen and disputes the actions to the rest of campus.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
During my internship at Deloitte and participation in HBCU DEI events over the past two years, I’ve discovered a passion for inspiring the next generation of accountants. When I start full-time, I aim to return to HBCU events as a panelist, hoping to ignite the same spark that fueled my love for accounting. My experience at the AFTF event last fall was pivotal in developing my enthusiasm for Wake Forest. I was captivated by the university’s culture and the wealth of opportunities it offers. Hearing from current MSA students on the panel solidified my decision to pursue my MSA at Wake Forest. As a Graduate Admissions Ambassador, I believe I can play a crucial role in creating similar transformational experiences for prospective students. I’m excited to share my journey, highlight Wake Forest’s unique offerings, and help others discover their path in accounting, just as I did. My goal is to contribute to building a diverse and passionate community of future accountants at Wake Forest.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
Wake Forest has always been one of my top choices, but attending the AFTF event last fall really solidified my decision to pursue my education here. After that experience, I found myself completely in love with Wake Forest; I honestly couldn’t picture myself anywhere else!
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
I think it all revolves around the people here at Wake. The community is what makes this program so amazing. The professors are incredibly attentive and helpful; it’s unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before, and they really make it easy to stay engaged. The staff is fantastic, creating a welcoming atmosphere that makes me feel at home, even though I’m far from my family. My classmates and friends are the cherry on top. One of my biggest fears about coming to North Carolina was not being able to make any friends, but I can honestly say that was one of the silliest things to worry about. Everyone in my class is so amazing and passionate about learning and growing. This creates a culture of leadership that I haven’t seen anywhere else in a college setting.

What made you want to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador?
I wanted to become a Graduate Admissions Ambassador because I have firsthand experience from my undergraduate years serving in a similar role. During that time, I was responsible for reaching out to various high schools, coordinating visits to our campus, and hosting information sessions. This role allows me to meet students from diverse backgrounds and expand my social network. Now, as a graduate student, I see this as an opportunity to leverage the platform of the school to help prospective students connect with senior students in their fields of interest, introduce them to the wide range of resources and opportunities we have, and help them envision their future paths. I’m eager to support students in making informed decisions about their academic journey while continuing to broaden my own experiences in a dynamic environment.
Why did you choose to pursue the MSM/MSBA/MSA at Wake Forest?
I chose the MSA program at Wake Forest because of my previous experience as a legal assistant, where I had the opportunity to engage with business-related matters from a legal perspective. This sparked my interest in gaining a deeper understanding of how businesses operate financially. Through the MSA program, I aim to expand my knowledge of accounting and finance, which will help me develop a more comprehensive view of business operations. Additionally, my long-term goal is to become a professional who can make a meaningful impact by combining my background in law with accounting expertise. I believe the MSA program at Wake offers the right blend of rigorous academic training and practical exposure to help me achieve this.
What is one of your favorite spots on campus and/or Winston-Salem? Why?
The most impactful experience in my MSA program so far has been the “Analytics in the Accounting Profession” course. This class allowed me to enhance my Excel skills, particularly in using pivot tables and applying techniques like conditional formatting to analyze large datasets—skills I hadn’t worked with before. Additionally, the “Forensic Accounting” course has been incredibly valuable, as it integrates legal and accounting knowledge through the exploration of fraud cases. Both courses have provided me with a solid foundation of practical skills, and I find the overall MSA curriculum to be well-designed and closely aligned with the evolving needs of the profession.

Tobacco has played a significant role in shaping North Carolinas cultural, economic, and social identity, even before the states official establishment. Early depictions of Native American communities along the coast at the end of the 16th century show cultivation and use of the plant. During the 19th century, tobacco became a cornerstone of the plantation economy, generating immense wealth for select families. In the 20th century, the rise of mass production and commercialization, along with an expanding labor force dedicated to its cultivation and processing, further embedded tobacco in North Carolinas way of life. Marketing campaigns and iconic imagery tied to tobacco are deeply woven into the states historical narrative. This exhibit showcases images, artifacts, and records from Special Collections & Archives, spanning from the sixteenth century to the modern era. It also features contributions from North Carolina artists and photographers, including Daisha Bunn and Erin Kye and their families, as well as works by photographer Dan Routh.

25th Annual Poteat Lecture

Named in honor of Hubert McNeill Poteat, who taught at Wake Forest University from 1911 to 1956 and was widely known and respected as a Latin scholar, this lecture series is designed to recognize and celebrate the many achievements of our faculty in research, scholarly, and creative work. The annual lectures are held each spring and are sponsored by the Office of the Dean of the College and the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. This year, Dr. Christian Miller, A.C. Reid Professor of Philosophy will speak on “Honesty: Preserving Our Most Treasured Virtue in an Increasingly Dishonest World.” Reception to follow immediately after the lecture.
