Course Description

 

Employee engagement studies, conducted by Gallup, consistently show on average in the U.S. only 33% of workers are highly engaged. Results from these studies find that authentic, inspirational leaders who provide their people a sense of purpose, invest time in developing their people, and approach leadership from a “coach” perspective versus a directive top-down boss, greatly enhance employee engagement and team performance. Thus, the key to high team performance and employee engagement is authentic and effective leadership.

This 1-day program will provide the participant with the foundation of authentic and effective leadership, while exploring who the leader is as a person. Fully understanding the factors driving behavior enhances leadership authenticity, assists in building trust with others, increases leader effectiveness, and contributes to personal fulfillment and team performance.

Authentic and Effective Leadership is part one of a series of four open enrollment leadership programs. New programs will be introduced quarterly with completion of all four programs resulting in a Certificate in Leadership.

  • Explore and identify personal leadership principles and purpose
  • Cultivate a mindset that promotes personal/professional growth and collaboration
  • Master techniques to build stronger relationships with others
  • Apply various forms of leadership behavior to solve challenges and infuse teammates with a sense of purpose
  • Create a personal leadership philosophy and plan to enhance performance

After each course session, time will be allocated in the program schedule for participants to immediately apply the learnings to developing a personal leadership plan, resulting in:

  • Increased self-awareness regarding how purpose, values, and mindset influence leader behavior

  • The ability to effectively manage oneself and connect with others

This program is designed for both new and experienced leaders wishing to enhance their authenticity and lead in a manner to significantly increase employee engagement within their team/organization.  Interested participants are encouraged to attend individually or in teams from their organizations.

Patrick Sweeney is a Professor of the Practice of Management and the Executive Director of Wake Forest School of Business’ Center for Leadership and Character. He is an experienced senior leader-practitioner with over 39 years of experience leading high performing organizations and scholar whose research focuses on leader, leadership, and organizational development. Pat has published across an array of academic and military professional publications. Pat served over 29 years in the United States Army and retired as a Colonel and a combat veteran. His leadership assignments in the United States and abroad included: Deputy and Acting Head of the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Leadership, the United States Military Academy at West Point, for five years; Director, Eisenhower Leader Development Graduate Education Program , a joint venture with Columbia University, for five years at West Point; Liaison Officer for the Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division, Operation Iraqi Freedom I; Commander of a 450-person artillery unit and Chief of Staff of a 1600-person organization in the 101st Airborne Division. Pat has experience creating and implementing programs at the institution level and is the primary architect of the Domain of the Human Spirit, the main character dimension for West Point’s Leader Development System; a foundational dimension in the U.S. Army’s Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Program; and a main pillar in the Department of Defense’s Total Force Fitness Program. He has extensive consulting experience in the areas of leader, leadership, and organizational development for Fortune 500 companies to include: Deloitte, EMCOR, GE, HP, Kellogg’s, JP Morgan Chase, Mercedes Benz, P&G, Pratt and Whitney, Prudential, State Farm, Synchrony Financial, USAA, YPO, and 7-Eleven and the Departments of Defense and Energy.

Tuition

 

The cost of the program is $550 and includes materials, continental breakfast and lunch, and is due in full at time of registration. Additionally, Wake Forest University alumni and faculty receive a 25% tuition discount. Program Materials

 

Course materials are included in the cost of tuition. Course materials will be distributed electronically in advance of the program start date. Participants must have a laptop or tablet computer to access course materials.

Cancellation of Program

 

This course is offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment. If a course must be cancelled, all registered participants will be notified at least five (5) calendar days before the course’s start date. All registered participants will receive a 100% tuition refund. No fees will be charged for cancelled courses.

 

Refund Policy

 

Prospective participants who withdraw at least 10 days prior to the start of a course will receive a full refund of tuition paid.
