Orientation Pre-Work Case Study

A Case Study Analysis will be provided prior to Orientation – read the case thoroughly and come prepared with detailed notes and analysis. This is not a graded assignment, but the exercise will familiarize you with the case study methodology that many Wake Forest MBA Faculty utilize in class.

Pre-Work Assignments

The Wake Forest University Charlotte Saturday MBA faculty may require preparatory coursework to be completed prior to the first day of class. If so, you will either receive an email from Matt Ganderson or Jenna Martin, or receive that information at Orientation.

MBA Math (highly recommended)

MBA Math is an online MBA prep program designed to take you through the basics of spreadsheets, statistics (quantitative methods), accounting, finance and microeconomics. The 24 online modules allow you to complete the material at your own pace.  All modules contain relevant skills used in the first year MBA classroom. The cost is only $149, which gives you access to the website for 1 year so you can review as needed. Wake Forest MBA students receive access to the MBA Math at a discounted rate.  Please contact Jillian Stubbs for more information at stubbsja@wfu.edu.

Financial Accounting (highly recommended)

The introductory course is an online, self-paced course that will provide an overview of the business transactions and reports used in financial accounting. Estimated time of completion is 20 hours. The cost is only $45, which gives you access to the website for 1 year so you can review as needed. Please contact Jillian Stubbs for more information at stubbsja@wfu.edu.

Management Communications Online Course (recommended, as needed)

The Management Communications Online Course provides students with the skills and guided practice necessary to master fundamental concepts in business communication. The course is organized into three core topics of planning, writing, and presenting. A special emphasis is placed on influencing action in the workplace by leading more effectively through well-organized and successfully-executed business communication strategies. The cost is $55, which gives you access to the website for 1 year to use as needed. Seat time is between 18-22 hours. Please contact Jillian Stubbs for more information at stubbsja@wfu.edu.

LASSI (Learning and Study Strategies Inventory) Assessment (highly recommended)

The Wake Forest University Charlotte Saturday MBA Administration has recently implemented The LASSI (Learning and Study Strategies Inventory) assessment as a way to better assist students in the MBA program.

We strongly recommend that you take this assessment because it gives both you and administration an idea of where you may need assistance during your two years in the program. This is an assessment designed to help you become more aware of areas you could grow in academically, which will help ease the transition of entering your MBA experience.

Title IX Training

Introduction to Understanding and Preventing Sexual Misconduct (sign-off required)

  • The Wake Forest University Title IX Office and the School of Business Integrative Student Services team has collaborated to produce this training, which was specifically developed with the needs of MBA students in mind, and articulates important standards regarding our life together in the WFU community.

Technology Overview and New Student Agreements

You will be granted access to the Technology Overview & New Student Agreements approximately 2 weeks prior to your Orientation.
  • School of Business Technology Overview (available 2 weeks prior to Orientation) – This site contains a brief overview of technology resources available to you.
  • New Student Agreements (available 2 weeks prior to Orientation) – You will be introduced to these forms during the Technology Overview and they must be completed prior to the first day of classes.

Excel Tutorial

Excel will be used extensively in Quant. This online Excel Tutorial is highly recommended if your Excel skills are light.

Textbooks

All textbooks are required and included with your tuition. Books for your first two courses will be provided at Orientation.

Academic Calendar

The most current academic calendar is available online on the Academic Services page. Your class-by-class schedule for the spring semester will be shared in late December.
