Business Valuation & Finance for Privately Held Businesses
Business owners and entrepreneurs work tirelessly to establish and grow their businesses. They not only provide their own income, but employ the majority of the American workforce. What happens when it’s time to sell the business? To take on investors? To allow employees to own a piece of the company? These events all require the business to have a value. The business owner should know what the value of the business they have created is worth and what options are available to turn that equity into cash for their next venture or their retirement. We will cover questions such as “Should I sell the entire business or retain a portion?” “How does my company’s growth impact the sales price?” “How can I help make sure that my customers are taken care of after I am no longer in control?” “What things can I do now to increase my business’s value?”
This course is designed to give the foundational tools to business owners so they can answer these questions and navigate through the valuation process. We’ll show you how to find the current value of your business, weigh exit strategies, and approaches you can use today to increase the value of business.

Who Should Attend?
Business owners of any size organization looking to understand the value of their business. The concepts taught are broken down to the most basic levels ensuring that entrepreneurs of all levels of financial acumen are able to take away important valuation concepts and common strategies used to increase their business value.
Attendees should have a working knowledge of their business’ finances and are ideally involved in the day-to-day operations of the company.

Stephan Shipe is a finance faculty member at Wake Forest University. He has a Ph.D. in Finance from Florida State University with a support area in Econometrics and is a CFA Charterholder. Professor Shipe has written articles and analyzed data related to corporate cash holdings, executive compensation, and investor behavior. He teaches courses in financial quantitative analysis, risk analysis, and financial data analytics. His research has led him to work with regulators on new laws related to financial disclosures and to own his own investment advisory firm.
This course is offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment. If a course must be cancelled, all registered participants will be notified at least five (5) calendar days before the course’s start date. All registered participants will receive a 100% tuition refund. No fees will be charged for cancelled courses.

Prospective participants who withdraw at least 10 days prior to the start of a course will receive a full refund of tuition paid.
Course materials are included in the cost of tuition. Course materials will be distributed electronically in advance of the program start date. Participants must have a laptop or tablet computer to access course materials.
