MA in Management: Summer Courses

Introduction to Business (MGT 2600)

The purpose of this course is to provide students with a broad introduction to business.  Class sessions will be used to overview all functional disciplines, discuss the disciplines in relation to one another, and make connections to the core of the program where the discipline is discussed in more detail.  Emphasis will be given to disciplines based on the needs of the faculty teaching in the core of the program and the backgrounds of the students entering the program.  Another important goal of the course is to help students develop their case analysis skills.  After completing this course, students will have a broad understanding of major business disciplines and a good start on developing their business vocabulary

(3.5 Credits)

Quantitative Modeling Workshop

The Workshop provides an introduction to the Quantitative Business Modeling course.  The Workshop uses fundamental business settings to teach Excel topics that range from introductory skills, such as formulae, graphs, and the use of Goal Seek, to advanced skills like Array Functions, Data Tables for sensitivity analysis, and Pivot Tables.  Some of the business applications include Forecasting, Risk Management, and Decision Analysis.

Career Management Workshop

The Career Management Center (CMC) workshop is designed to help you develop skills, discover interests, refine a career focus, employ job-search tools and strategies, craft a resumé, and sharpen interview and negotiations skills.  Students will gain an understanding of current job market realities and possible career tracks, develop a personal marketing plan and conduct a self assessment (strengths & weaknesses, personality style).  Students will also be exposed to career panels with recent alumni representing marketing, finance, operations, and consulting disciplines.
