Career Management

Career Management

Our Career Management Center staff works closely with students to assess career options, refine goals, and network with well-placed corporate contacts and alumni to help determine the right career. Beyond the immediate job search, staff members work with you to develop skills that will enhance lifelong career progression.

Regardless of the graduate program you choose or where you are in your career, we can help you plan and manage your career to best reach your goals.

Approach

The Career Management Center offers workshops that help you discover skills and interests, refine a career focus, employ job-search tools and strategies, craft a resumé, and sharpen interview and negotiations skills.

Members of the CMC staff have corporate experience in various functional areas that they use to benefit students, and each student is assigned a counselor based on areas of interest and degree program.

A corporate relations specialist on staff visits companies throughout the country to understand talent recruitment needs and identify opportunities where Schools of Business students can be part of the solution.

Events and services

The CMC partners with other schools on two major career fairs – CareerQuest, held each fall at the University of Maryland; and the Carolina MBA Connection, held in February in Raleigh/Durham.

Staff members advise students and attend the career fair portion of the annual National Black MBA Association conference. In addition, companies come to the Wake Forest campus for information sessions.

Alumni and business leaders often serve as mentors to students and participate in on- and off-campus activities, providing the chance to learn from those working in specific fields. Annual events organized through the CMC include:

  • Career panels for marketing, finance and operations
  • Investment Banking Weekend
  • Consulting Weekend
  • Operations Club trip
  • Marketing Club trip
  • Week on Wall Street trip
  • Receptions in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Charlotte, Raleigh and Richmond

The CMC provides mock interview opportunities with counselors and alumni, and through InterviewStream, an online system.

Workshops for international students are developed based on identified needs. Working in conjunction with the graduate business International Students Association, past topics geared specifically to international students have included career panels, networking, corporate research and interviewing skills.
