The Elevator Competition, first held in 2000, allows students from schools across the globe to test their skills at making the perfect elevator pitch. Each student team is given the opportunity to perform two separate two-minute pitches to venture capitalists. If the team is able to generate sufficient interest, it will advance to the next round where a formal boardroom presentation will be made. The event begins with a dinner on Friday night in Winston-Salem, NC. Teams will be greeted by their respective hosts and have the opportunity to mingle with other contestants at the pre-dinner kickoff reception
On Saturday morning, the two-minute elevator rides begin. Students with a great business idea must think and act quickly so as to spark further interest in their idea. Pitches should be engaging and concise. Be ready to be interrupted though, as judges will often have questions or comments.
