Summer Management Program Overview

Program Overview

The Summer Management Program offers students a solid grounding in the fundamentals of business and management as well as exposure to proven decision-making and leadership theory. Through an engaging mix of lectures, case studies, and team projects, students will learn how to apply their new knowledge to real world scenarios as well as gain practical experience in key areas while working efficiently and successfully in a group.

Over the course of the program, some of the outstanding faculty from the Schools of Business will lead units on ten essential business topics:

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Organizational Behavior
  • Management
  • Information Systems
  • Business Law
  • Operations
  • Strategic Management
  • Entrepreneurship

After 5 rigorous weeks, students leave the program with 8 pass/fail credit hours, a competitive edge in today’s global marketplace, and the confidence to move into the business world after graduation.

In addition, the Summer Management Program augments the above curriculum with training and skills that add to your competitive edge. Those include:

  • Career Coaching
    • Creating and leveraging your personal brand
    • Maximizing your social capital to jump start your career
    • Improving your interview performances
  • On-Site Business Practicum
  • Wall Street Journal
    • Receive a daily copy of this business publication, which is incorporated in the Finance, Accounting and Management curriculum

Finally, Students participate in an exciting capstone activity where they manage a start-up company in a real-time virtual setting. Making strategic decisions and critical business inputs, students compete (in teams) to create the company with the most economic value using a state-of-the-art business simulation.

2010 SMP will be held May 25 - June 30, 2010.

teamwork HALF

Working in teams was an invaluable experience. It not only gave my classmates and I the opportunity to model the way real businesses operate but also the chance to apply what we learned in a stimulating and collaborative setting
