BEM Internship Overview

An internship gives students the opportunity to apply what they are learning in the classroom to real-life work experiences. They learn to translate their experiences and gain exposure to a wide range of opportunities.

The Business & Enterprise Management internship requirement is substantial – a minimum of 200 hours over a minimum of 5 weeks. The internship is designed to provide students the opportunity for a meaningful career-related experience in a variety of organizational settings.  It is expected that students will practice and expand upon their knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in a substantive work situation.  The internship is also intended to enhance students’ marketability for a permanent job, deepen their understanding of a specific field and demonstrate the applicability of classroom knowledge in a real-world environment.

During the internship, a Wake Forest faculty member will facilitate student learning, through weekly journals that students will keep, highlighting the tasks and challenges they encounter. Additionally, several reflective papers, including an organizational analysis and other tangible tasks will be required. Finally, students will present a portfolio showcasing the work they accomplished and the areas in which they have grown.

“Bank of America’s internship program is an excellent recruiting and training tool. The summer experience allows hiring managers and interns to work together, ‘test drive’ the partnership and evaluate the experience before making or accepting a full-time offer. The program is instrumental in building a pipeline for full-time talent.”
