You ask questions. We give answers.
Q:What is the Schools of Business undergraduate program's admissions process? A: Each year, the undergraduate program of the Schools of Business hosts a Sophomore Orientation. Generally, this event occurs in late January. All those students who were in ACC111 in the Fall semester as well as those in ACC111 for the Spring semester are notified via email of the details of this event. During Sophomore Orientation, potential applicants to the School are given a brief overview of the majors, special programs, and international opportunities, and then they are dismissed to attend two information sessions on the majors of interest to them. Once these information sessions conclude, the students return to receive instructions on how to access the online application. Those students who are abroad and unable to attend Sophomore Orientation will receive via email the instructions for accessing the online application. Q:How are applications evaluated? A: Once the application period has ended, the Admissions Committee meets to review the applicant pool. The committee considers a number of factors when ruling on an application. Members will look at a student's overall GPA, his/her performance in the prerequisite classes, the number of hours completed and the answer to the essay question. While there are additional considerations to be made, these are the main criteria. Q:How many students are accepted to the undergraduate business school annually? A: The School can accept up to 200 students in each entering class. Since the process is competitive, many students will be denied in the first round of admissions because they have not yet met the main requirements for admission. Their applications will remain active as they work to be reconsidered when their grades post at the end of the Spring semester or in the Summer Sessions. It is important to remember, however, that the undergraduate business school is not obligated to take 200 students. Just meeting the prerequisite requirements will not insure acceptance to the School. The number of applicants varies from year to year so it is important for students to be competitive in terms of their academic performance prior to applying to the undergraduate program of the Schools of Business. Q:What happens if I am denied admission to the undergraduate business school? A: If a student receives notification that he/she has been denied admission to the School, the student will be instructed to meet with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in 223 Kirby Hall. She will tell the student why he/she was denied and what the student needs to do to be reconsidered for admission. If, however, it appears that the student will not gain admission to the School, the Associate Dean will try to help the student identify another major that may help meet the student's goals. Q:What happens after I have been accepted to the undergraduate program of the Schools of Business? A: You will be notified via email of you status within the School. If you are admitted, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs will declare your major with the Registrar, provide you with the name of your Faculty Consultant, inform you of the date/time/location for advising, register you for major classes and host drop/add for major courses.
