Advising FAQs:

What is the role of my Faculty Advisor?
Advising in the undergraduate program of the Schools of BusinessĀ is now centralized through the Student Affairs Office for each major. Questions regarding scheduling should be directed to Lynn Zimmerman (223 Kirby Hall).

You are free to make an appointment to speak with your Faculty Advisor (listed on your degree audit as your advisor).

What is the process for entering class schedules?
Schedules are first sorted by graduation date and then entered randomly beginning with the seniors. The only exception to this pertains to those classes which are required for one major and not for another. For example, ACC211 is required for all ACC and FIN majors and so they will get preference in scheduling over other majors. If an ACC major is asking for ACC211 and BEM221, he/she will get ACC211 but then his/her form will be put back with all the other schedules to receive BEM221 in random order.

Schedules with HOLDS cannot be entered. You should make sure your account is clear if you want to have your schedule entered in a timely fashion. Those schedules with HOLDS are moved to the end of the line.

When are schedules due?
If you do not turn in your schedule at the advising meeting, it must be submitted to Helen Baucom in the Student Affairs Suite by 5PM, on Wednesday, October 21st. If the Student Affairs Suite is locked, slide your schedule under the door.

When will schedules be entered?
Lynn Zimmerman will begin entering schedules on Thursday, October 22nd. It will take the entire week to complete this task. You are not to email or voicemail regarding scheduling unless you do not have a schedule in the system by noon on October 30th. No calls regarding scheduling will be returned until the task is completed.

What happens if I don't see my schedule on WIN?
Again, Lynn Zimmerman will not be through entering schedules until October 30th. If you do not have a schedule and you do not have a HOLD on your account, please contact her immediately.

How do I get my PIN number to register for non-major classes?
You will get your PIN number during your advising session. They will be distributed by the individual leading your advising session. Upon completion of the advising sessions, all PIN numbers will be turned over to Lynn Zimmerman for distribution.

If you are studying abroad, your PIN number will be emailed to you.

Do I have what I need to graduate?
Look at your degree audit on WIN to see how many hours you need to meet the 120 to graduate. Look at how many hours you have left to meet your Basic and Divisional Requirements and your Major requirements. If you feel there is a problem, please contact Associate Dean Hoppe.

What if I don't like my schedule?
Lynn Zimmerman will offer drop/add on Monday, November 16th in 223 Kirby Hall from 9AM until 11AM. First come, first served.

What if I am registering on WIN and one of my undergraduate Schools of Business classes conflicts with a College class that only offers one section?
Because your undergraduate Schools of Business classes are entered prior to online registration, conflicts sometime arise. If you have a problem of this nature, call Lynn Zimmerman (x1983). This is really the only type of request that will be addressed prior to the Monday, November 16th drop/add date.

How do I turn in a schedule if I am studying abroad?
Instructions for registration while abroad will be included in advising notification emails which will be sent to all undergraduate Schools of Business majors.
