Kusawn Carr Welcome Everyone, Our chat session will begin now. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.
laura I live near Lake Norman... How far of a commute is the Morrocroft campus approx?
Audra Esposito Approximately 45 minutes. Obviously that is all dependent on traffic in the area - I am sure you are aware of this living in the Charlotte area!
laura it has been a long time since I was in school, and I wasn't a business major. How can I best prepare for business school?
Kusawn Carr At the Babcock School, we do not require our students to have a background in business. You can start by reading industry publications i.e. Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, etc. You may also want to take an accounting and/or statistics course at a local college.
geo14k I see that students in the Charlotte Saturday program meet each Saturday for class. Do they also meet with their study groups on that day, or do they meet on other days as well?
Kusawn Carr You will determine how often and when you will meet with your team during the team building portion of orientation. Each team is different, but they usually meet at least once a week and the day varies from team to team.
laura I know that there are a number of MBA programs in the CLT area-- can you tell me what makes Wake Forest different?
Audra Esposito Wake Forest believes in a personalized approach to the entire program. From admissions to graduation. You will get to know the administration and your cohorts very well over two years time. Our program in the Charlotte area is also the only one nationally and internationally ranked. For some candidates that makes a difference. If there is a possibility of your career taking you outside North Carolina, I think you'll find people know Wake Forest - which is to your advantage.
laura Are there any events, other than classes, that Charlotte MBA students participate in?
Kusawn Carr Charlotte students are welcome to participate in just about any event on the main campus. In addition, we offer various enrichment sessions, socials and professional development events for our Students.
geo14k I'm studying for my GMAT right now and hope to take it next month. Is that too late for possible enrollment in the fall?
Kusawn Carr Not at all. We operate on a rolling admissions basis and will continue to accept qualified applicants until the program is full. I would however, start your application process now if possible.
laura Can you explain the major differences in curriculum between the charlotte evening and charlotte Saturday programs, if any?
Audra Esposito The differences lie around the number of credit hours, and the number of electives offered. Based on the only three year minimum of work experience (Saturday program), there are more credit hours and contact hours with the faculty to make up for the lower average of work experience of the cohort. The Evening program is more structured throughout the course of the program.
geo14k How are the study teams selected?
Kusawn Carr We try to make sure there is a diverse make up of functions and backgrounds so that each project can be approached from a variety of viewpoints and perspectives.
laura As a charlotte student, can I participate in Wake Forest's graduation in Winston-Salem, or is there a separate graduation program in Charlotte?
Kusawn Carr The university has one main graduation a year and Charlotte Students are welcome to travel to the main campus to participate. In addition, we have a semi-formal celebration in Charlotte.
laura Is the summer international trip included in the tuition and approx how many Charlotte students participate in that program?
Audra Esposito For the Charlotte program, the international trip is considered and elective option. It is NOT completely part of tuition. There is an additional fee (the fee is likely different depending on what trip you choose) involved if you choose to participate in a trip.
laura What is the percentage of female students in the Charlotte programs?
Audra Esposito It is roughly around 15% between both programs.
geo14k What is the average GMAT that I need to shoot for?
Kusawn Carr Our average GMAT score is 600. We will ask an applicant to re-take the exam if they score below 500.
laura What kind of financial aid is available in the Charlotte programs?
Kusawn Carr There is a wide variety of student loans available and students can borrow up to the entire amount of the program.
laura Another question regarding financial aid-- do I start paying back the loan immediately or after graduation?
Kusawn Carr You have a six month grace period after graduation
geo14k Where can I go to get more study materials for the GMAT? Is there anything that seems to be more helpful than the others?
Audra Esposito The best place to start is www.mba.com . This site is run by the GMAC organization that develops the test. They have a wealth of resources for you to take advantage.
Audra Esposito Keep in mind our formal Information Session is scheduled for Tuesday, April 12th from 5:30 - 7:30pm. If you can join us please register via the Web site. We hope to meet you then!
